Vintage mirror buyer’s guide

A vintage mirror can bring character to any room. Use it in place of artwork to add interest to a scheme, or hang one to make a dark room lighter and brighter. You can add personality to a bedroom, dining room, hall or landing with a single vintage mirror – or go for a group hung together to make a sizeable display. Tracking down the real thing in markets, at boot fairs and in secondhand stores can be time consuming and frustrating, but our mirrors are produced by us inspired by antique designs to give you the look without the search. Choose our vintage mirrors and you can opt for plain mirror glass, or go for antiqued mirror glass which has small black-infused dots to create the look of old glass. Each of our vintage mirrors hangs from an ornamental chain to create an authentic look when it is on the wall. Read more

Choosing vintage mirrors

Our vintage mirrors come in five different shapes and sizes: small octagonal 30cm x 30cm; large octagonal 40cm x 40cm; straight edge oval 45cm x 30cm; small serpentine 22.5cm x 34.5cm; and large serpentine 38cm x 53cm. All of our vintage mirrors are frameless and they are backed on to a black board. If you like the idea of hanging a group, the shapes are easy to fit together in different combinations to create a display that’s as impactful as hanging a large artwork on your wall. When it comes to arranging a group to display on the wall, it’s best to lay the mirrors out on the floor first to enable you to try different shape combinations. That way, you can easily move the mirrors around until you’re completely happy with the effect before you hang them. Remember that they need to sit fairly close to one another so they’ll appear as a single display on the wall.

Using mirrors in your home

Mirrors like our vintage versions can bring a whole host of benefits to your room schemes whether they’re hung singly or grouped. If your room is dark, adding mirrors will multiply the light that does reach the room to make it a brighter and more welcoming space. To maximise the effect try one sizeable mirror or go for a group using attractive designs like our vintage mirrors. Mirrors are also a clever way to create a view where there wasn’t one before. Hang a mirror opposite a window with a view of your garden and you’ll enjoy the outlook even when your back is turned to the exterior space. This can be a particularly good strategy to give those seated on the wall-facing side of a dining table an outside perspective. Mirrors can also create the illusion of a room beyond the one you’re in if you go for a floorstanding version. This can help a small room feel larger and make any room scheme feel more open as well as intriguing.

Creating a wall display

Our vintage mirrors are a great way to bring interest to walls all round your home, and it’s easy to combine the different shapes and sizes to make your display. They can hang singly, too, if you prefer, or you can browse designs such as our framed vintage style mirror, Parisian oval mirror, and round Kimpton mirror to create a focal point that will also brighten your space. We also offer wall art prints that are ideal hung above one of our console tables or side tables to create impact in a living space, or over a chest of drawers in the bedroom. With a natural theme, they’ll help create a relaxing ambience wherever you hang them.
