The Dormy House Dormy House used to make round tables – lots of them and for a long while they were our only product. We have come on a long way since 1981 when John Valenzia retired from the Army and with his wife, Eileen began their business. They wanted to pursue a passion for making furniture whilst earning a small income from doing something they loved. Today the ethos of our company is still the same - We just love what we do which is designing and producing furniture and developing ideas into practical yet stylish home interior solutions.
John and Eileen started working from the garage adjacent to their house, ‘The Dormy House’ and the ‘Instant Table’ was developed to work in conjunction with a steady flow of commission work that John was being asked to do. Surprisingly this simple slot together table became a phenomenon and it soon became apparent that John and his ‘jigsaw’ were not going to keep up with the extraordinary volume of orders generated from small ads in interior and home magazines.
The company has since expanded its range of furniture and premises from the garage, into industrial units of ever-increasing size to lately in the spring of 2014 into our newly refurbished factory on the Walworth Industrial Park in Andover.
This new location has allowed us to offer a very efficient service to our customers as well as being able to proudly show off what we do in a spacious showroom. Furthermore, we can give personal and expert advice to those who want help with finding solutions for their interior furnishings and storage dilemmas. The extensive space in which we now work has meant that we have been able to grow our modular product ranges of wardrobes, bookcases, television units, chest of drawers to name just a few, which are proving to be very popular.
In all this time, unlike many of our competitors, we have resisted the temptation to import from abroad and remain a British manufacturing company. We also endeavour as far as possible to source our supplies and raw materials, where we can from the UK. Our staff are an integral part of our business and are treated as extended family. They all work conscientiously hard in ensuring that the company remains successful. We are committed to our customers and are proud when they decide to put our furniture in their homes.
John and Eileen look on proudly at the new generation of The Dormy House happy in the knowledge that the simple values they held when starting out still remain to this day.
