In the quiet evolution of a home, some pieces act as anchors, grounding the decorative whims of a room in a sense of permanent craft. For London-based creative consultant and textile designer Rosanna Falconer, the transformation of her Battersea master bedroom has been a masterclass in this slow-burn philosophy.
It is a space that purposefully avoids the immediate gratification of the modern interior, opting instead for a curated dialogue between Jaipur’s ancient block-printing traditions and the British upholstery of The Dormy House. At the heart of this room sits the Regal Rounded Headboard, a piece that represents an eighteen-month journey from a conceptual sketch to a finished silhouette.
A Legacy of British Craft
Rosanna’s work often bridges the gap between global craft and London life. As an interior designer who specialises in helping clients find their own creative voice through colour and pattern, she approached her own master bedroom with rigorous professional standards. When it comes to sourcing for her design projects, The Dormy House is consistently at the top of her list for its rare ability to marry robust structural engineering with a refined, editorial finish.
Through her website, rosannafalconer.com, Rosanna retails her own vibrant block-printed homeware collection. Each design begins life as an original painting in her studio before being translated by artisans into block printed table linens, quilts and cushions.
By utilising the Customer’s Own Material (COM) service, Rosanna moved beyond the role of the consumer and into the role of the creator. She was able to seamlessly blend iconic British manufacturing with her own signature, soulful textiles, creating a truly unique focal piece that tells a story of global travel and local craft.
“My husband and I first began musing over this room while living in Jaipur, obsessing over the contrast of white against the terracotta tones of the Pink City - a palette seen throughout its streets and facades. Back in the UK, with its cooler light and greyer skies, I softened the scheme into chalky white, plaster pink and muted green, most clearly expressed in the blossom and birch branches I hand-painted across the fitted wardrobes.”
“I wanted the headboard to bring a sense of grandeur and drama to the room, so the scale and height of this design felt exactly right. While some might have chosen a half-tester or corona canopy, I love that this achieves a similar sense of occasion while still feeling relaxed and playful. It suits our home beautifully - elegant, but not overly formal.”

The Jaipur Strike-Off: The Virtue of the Wait
The journey to the perfect sanctuary required a careful balancing act of texture and tone. For the main body of the headboard, Rosanna selected a classic, elegant pink vertical stripe on cotton canvas from Ian Mankin. However, finding the absolute perfect harmony for the rest of the space required a lesson in patience.
In an industry often governed by tight lead times, the decision was made to pause and let the room evolve naturally. Rosanna wanted to perfect her designs for the bed quilt and cushions, tying the same dyes into the headboard piping. She chose to take her time refining these colours and blocks with her artisans in Jaipur, curating the prints until the saturation and pairings were exact.
This creative delay is what distinguishes a house from a home; it is the refusal to settle for a near-miss in the pursuit of a singular vision.
Many find the delays of a renovation stressful, yet you embraced the time it took to get the room right. How do you maintain that perspective when you're eager to see a space finished:
“This was a room that kept being pushed to the bottom of my list. Projects for clients with tight deadlines, or moments when our own budget needed prioritising elsewhere, meant patience became a virtue. I kept thinking of the old adage “the cobbler’s shoes are always last to be fixed” throughout the process.
“The joy of working on your own home is that there isn’t the same pressure or urgency as there is with professional projects. I was able to embrace the slower process of mulling over ideas, fabrics and textures until everything settled into place naturally. I think that sense of evolution is often what gives a space its character in the end.”

The Regal Rounded Silhouette
To frame such a whimsical combination of textiles, the form of the headboard required an understated elegance. The Regal Rounded was selected for its tall, arched profile, which offers a generous vertical canvas much like a piece of framed art. The soft, sweeping curves provide a necessary, feminine counterpoint to the structured nature of the vertical stripes.
The technical execution in our Hampshire workshop involved precision upholstery, ensuring the symmetry of the Ian Mankin design was perfectly tensioned across the frame. But it is the final flourish that truly defines the room's character. In a brilliant showcase of her own product range, Rosanna finished the headboard with a bespoke contrast piping made from her signature hand-block printed fabric.
This hot pink stripe-on-stripe detail is a masterclass in pattern play, perfectly mirroring the identical block-printed berry and pink ticking stripes found on the quilts and cushion covers from Rosanna’s own collection that adorn the bed.
This specific print is a cornerstone of Rosanna's homeware range, designed to seamlessly transition from the border of a placemat to the frill of a luxury cushion. By layering her own collection with our upholstered frames, Rosanna demonstrates how independent British design and global craftsmanship can effortlessly dance together.
“My career began in fashion - spending over a decade behind the scenes at the British Fashion Council and later at Matthew Williamson. It taught me the importance of styling around a hero piece, how contrast can bring a room to life and that a small, unexpected jolt of joy is often the final flourish. Without really realising it, I think that instinct has stayed with me."
"I love colour and pattern, but they have to be used with care, particularly in a bedroom where you still want a feeling of calm. The contrast piping felt playful rather than overpowering - a little wink of hot pink against the softness of the room. I always try to leave space for those slightly unexpected details. They are often what make a home feel personal rather than overly decorated."

The Dormy House Design Library
While the Regal Rounded provided the perfect canvas for Rosanna’s stripes, The Dormy House collection offers a vast library of silhouettes designed to suit any architectural language.
“Dormy House headboards are designed so beautifully that they become part of the architecture of the bed itself. They were also incredibly easy to install - a 15-minute task for my father-in-law and me. I love the breadth of silhouettes available; each one has the ability to completely shift the mood of a room.”

A Space for the Decades
As the headboard was finally unboxed and positioned in situ, it represented the end of a project that refused to be rushed. Through this collaboration, Rosanna Falconer and The Dormy House have demonstrated that when we honour the process as much as the product, we create spaces that don't just look beautiful for a season but feel right for a lifetime.
“The headboard makes the room feel complete in a way it never quite did before. We had a bespoke valance made to match in Jaipur, so together they give the bed a real sense of presence and softness."
"The room is south-facing and flooded with light throughout the day, which means the shape, scale and colours of the piece are constantly shifting and revealing themselves differently. After such a long creative journey, I think it has brought a real sense of calm and permanence to the room.”
- Rosanna Falconer
Ultimately, Rosanna’s Battersea sanctuary is a testament to the magic that happens when thoughtful design is given the time to breathe. It proves that the most beautiful homes aren't manufactured overnight; they are collected, layer by painstaking layer, balancing the structural integrity of British craft with the soulful imprint of an artist's hand. It is a space built not just to look beautiful today, but to hold memories for the decades to come.
