Room divider screen buyer’s guide

If you want to be able to divide a room easily – and make it one again whenever you need to with just as much convenience – a room divider screen is the answer. There are three fabulous designs in our collection so you can do just that, including those with plain panels that you can cover yourself, 3 panel screens with a painted finish, and upholstered room divider screens, which can create a softer look. Designs you can cover yourself give plenty of opportunity to make the look individual – and quirky, too, if you like. A painted room divider screen will look enduringly elegant of course, and is easy to co-ordinate with the rest of the room’s colour scheme because you can pick from our range of beautiful paint colours or opt to paint the screen at home yourself. Go for an upholstered design, and you can add a block of colour or pattern, choosing the same for both sides or different fabrics for each. Read more

Why go for a room divider?

Adding a room divider is a great way to make lots of spaces in your home more flexible. Put up a wall and you’ll commit to a particular layout and, unless your wall is glazed, stop daylight it its tracks, making both rooms darker than they were before. A room divider screen, on the other hand, can be moved in and out of position when required, but will still allow light through at the top so you can borrow one area’s natural illumination for another. There are plenty of places you might want a room divider. You could use it to carve a home office out of another room, making Zoom and other calls more private and distinguishing your work area from shared family space. Think, too, about making a separate dressing area in part of your bedroom. Divided from the getting-ready clothes storage zone your sleeping space will feel even more relaxing in mood. A room divider could make room-sharing kids feel as if they each have their own space, too. And if you have things that are hard to put away but don’t look good on show in any area, a screen can hide all manner of things from view.

Options for 3 panel screens

Our decorative 3 panel screens are a popular option. French-inspired, these screens have a traditional look that won’t go out of date. The solid screen panel features a moulded cut out detail that gives the painted design interest, together with an elegant cut out base, and one of these screens will look enduringly elegant wherever you use it. These screens are easy to co-ordinate with the rest of the room’s colour scheme because they’re painted. You can decide on any one of our lovely paint shades, which include both appealing neutrals, mid tones and darker hues, or you can order one of these screens unpainted and finish it yourself. Each panel of one of these screens measures W:44cm H:152cm, and three panels safely concertinaed will cover a width of 120cm. We recommend these screens for any room you want to divide aside from children’s rooms as they’re particularly heavy.

Other room-diving screen options

As an alternative to a 3 panel screen, you can divide a room with a plain panel screen or an upholstered screen. Screens with plain panels give you the option to cover the room divider yourself. This gives you plenty of opportunity to make the look individual. You could use fabric, wallpaper, a decoupage of memorabilia, or even make it into a notice board. There are plenty of style and size options with a plain panel screen. Choose from rectangular, curved and serpentine shapes and three or four panels, and a height of 91cm, 120cm, 150cm or 180cm. We can even make custom sizes when you pick one of these room dividers. Alternatively, go for an upholstered screen design. With one of these, you can introduce fabulous colour or pattern to the room you’re dividing. Go for the same upholstery fabric for both sides or different fabrics for each. These screens are padded on one side, and the edges of each are finished with either studs or trim. Once again, you can opt for three or four panel designs, and as well as standard sizes, we’ll custom make panels.
