The hallway of many a family home can become a magnet for clutter with jackets, coats and scarves discarded on the nearest chair or thrown over the newel post, and bags abandoned on the floor to trip up the next person who comes home. But if you don’t have room for a cupboard – or the one you have is already at capacity – you need storage that doesn’t fill any more of the floor. That’s where a wall-hung design like a peg shelf comes in. It’ll turn an area that’s not doing anything into super convenient storage that’s in the right place, encouraging family members to be tidier. When you’re ordering, you can pick any of our paint colours to finish your peg shelf. This means you can match it to the hue of your walls so it’s a subtle addition. But you could choose a more colourful finish from our range to make it more eye-catching. Mid blue, inky blue or barely black could complement your hallway decor brilliantly.
A peg rail shelf could help a storage option that can be used in many areas of a home look like part of the decoration rather than appearing merely functional. Simply add a few decorative accessories to the peg rail shelf and it’s these which will draw the eye rather than the bags, hats, scarves and jackets you might put on the pegs – however smart they are. This tactic works particularly well if the peg rail shelf is positioned in the hallway, where a little accessorising can help lift the look and make the entrance to your home welcoming rather than just a way in. The same goes for a bedroom in which you’re using the peg rail shelf, but here you might want to make what’s on the pegs pretty, too, because a bedroom is your personal space. Think about hanging costume jewellery and scarves, for instance. If your peg rail shelf is in a kitchen, you could use the shelf for glasses and mugs, meanwhile. Pick a colour theme and the display will look stronger. And in the bathroom, the shelf is ideal for your best toiletries – that’s the ones in elegant packaging rather than everyday plastics.
For fabulously organised hallway storage, you might want to combine a peg rail with shelf with some of our other storage designs. To help everyone keep track of their keys, we have a wall hung key holder that you can label so there’s a hook for everyone. Shoes can also be a major hazard in the hallway, and a shoe bench is a handy addition to any home. Whether yours is a long narrow hallway or a more generous space, you might also want to add a console table. As well as space for the items discarded as your home’s occupants come in from the day, it’ll create space for a table lamp to add a welcoming glow to the area.
