The Dormy House has come a long way since 1981 when John Valenzia retired from the Army and founded the business with his wife Eileen. The pair pursued their passion for making furniture, starting with a simple, slot together Instant Table handmade in the garage adjacent to their home ‘The Dormy House’.
The design quickly became a phenomenon and it soon became apparent that John and his ‘jigsaw’ were not going to keep up with the extraordinary volume of orders. To satisfy the demand, they expanded their furniture range and premises as they continued to do what they love.
When John and Eileen retired at 73, their son Mark and daughter Anna took up the reigns. Now The Dormy House is spearheaded by Anna alongside her husband, Gary and daughter, Charlotte yet the ethos of our company remains the same. We just love what we do - designing and producing furniture and developing ideas into practical yet stylish home interior solutions.
From our refurbished factory on the Walworth Industrial Park in Andover, we make for our customers. We offer personal and expert advice to those who want help with finding solutions for their interior dilemmas and build pieces especially for their homes and styles.
The extensive space in which we now work has meant that we have been able to grow our modular product ranges of wardrobes, bookcases, television units, chest of drawers to name just a few, which continue to be very popular.
In all this time, unlike many of our competitors, we have resisted the temptation to import from abroad and remain a British manufacturing company. We also endeavour to source our supplies and raw materials, where we can from the UK. Our staff are a central part of our business and are treated as extended family. They all work conscientiously hard in ensuring that the company remains its integrity and success.
John and Eileen look on proudly at the new generation of The Dormy House happy in the knowledge that the simple values they held when starting out still remain to this day.
